Rays of light

After Glow

After Glow

As you know by now I’m a big fan of the different moods that can play out in a landscape scene. And lately I’ve been lovin the mood in our valleys. The Rural Fire Service may just be my new best friend as all their recent hazard reduction burns have left allot of smoke hanging around in the area and when combined with the right light, well it just looks just amazing. I had managed to capture some great mood previously, however I was really after something a little different to what I had captured before.

On this occasion I knew that the light was shaping up for something good in the late afternoon as I had been watching the clouds all day and I could see a hint of red in them. Much of this smoke had been sitting in the megalong valley for the last 2 days, but by the third day there was plenty spilling into the jamison valley in Katoomba.. The smoke allowed the light to really accentuate the shafts of light coming over from narrowenck plateau into the above scene.  It’s always good when a plan comes to fruition and you get what you were after…….

I will always look for that little extra piece of mood that will hopefully help tell the story I was looking for. So next time you see something a little different grab your camera and head to your nearest lookout.   This print and more are available for purchase here.

Have a fantastic weekend…..
